Campaigning

Whether you have just one minute or more to spare you can make a real difference, right now. Here a few of the many ways you can take action and get your voice heard:

Letter Writing

Writing a letter to a politician or other influential individual/organisation is a very effective tool for change. You do not need to have an in-depth knowledge about Stepping Stones Nigeria, child rights or Nigeria itself - all you need is a pen and paper or computer and the desire to act for good! When writing, follow these simple tips:

  1. Letters can be hand-written or typed.
  2. Letters do not have to be long or detailed providing the point is clear.
  3. Use formal language but write in a style that feels natural to you.
  4. Be polite. Insults can do considerable damage to the cause. Treating the reader with respect is more likely to warrant a positive response. Check beforehand how to formally address the person you are contacting e.g. ‘Your Excellency’ or ‘Dear President’ etc.
  5. Be clear about why you are writing the letter. What do you want to see changed and why? Why is this an important issue to you and how does it make you feel? Try not to ask for too many things in one letter.
  6. Feel free to say a little about yourself to show that people from across the globe, from all walks of life, are concerned about child rights.
  7. Encourage a response from the reader.

Remember:

  1. Letters don’t have to be long or detailed.
  2. Make sure your request is clear throughout.
  3. Letter writing works!

Your letters combined can put an end to the abandonment, torture, abuse and murder of innocent children. Please act now.
