In June 2009, the documentary ‘Saving Africa’s Witch Children’ was broadcast in Australia, on ABC’s Four Corners. The programme highlighted the amazing work of Stepping Stones Nigeria (SSN), a small grassroots charity that aims to defend and uphold the rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged children, such as the so-called ‘witch’ children in the Niger Delta, Nigeria.
Many Australians were extremely overwhelmed by what they witnessed when they watched the documentary and were compelled to get in touch with SSN to offer their support. Following numerous requests, SSN worked with its supporters to establishe five ‘Friends of’ supporter groups in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. These groups are now playing a key role in raising awareness and funds in Australia to ensure that SSN, the only international charity working on these challenging issues in the Niger Delta, can continue to protect, save and transform the lives of more vulnerable and disadvantaged children in this complex region.
